Longford GAA Coaching & Games

County Final

Congratulations to Emmet Óg on their hard fought win over a Longford Slashers side who done everything in their power to achieve the three in a row. In another compelling game that swung to and fro throughout the course of the 80+ minutes last Sunday Killoe got the all important scores in the second period of extra-time to see them crowned champions and to cap a great week for the club as the previous Sunday their minors captured their championship a they overcame St. Vincent’s. And finally a special word of congratulations to our own Sean McCormack on his fine contribution this last two weeks and no doubt all the kids of his schools will be offering similar words of congratulations in the days ahead when he’s in coaching.

Schools Coaching

Coaching continues in all our primary and post primary schools on a daily basis and this wiil continue to run up until the Christmas holidays. The next date on the Leinster first year schedule is this Wednesday 24th October while the following day, October 25th we will run a 15 a side second year blitz in Ballymahon which will again be a first for Longford Coaching and Games.

Development Squads

Training is ongoing for all our squads in preparation for their next fixtures which will take place in the weeks ahead. Last Saturday saw our U-15 footballers travel to Laois to contest a blitz with Carlow, Offaly as well as the hosts. On the same day our U-16 footballers were due to travel to take on Wexford in Enniscorty but due to various sicknesses and work committements we were unable to field a team when the bus was leaving Longford so we had to concede the points. This week sees this same group take on Offaly under lights in Mullingar – time and venue TBC. On the bank holiday Monday October 29th these U-16s have a home game against Wicklow to complete their Leinster Shield campain but if these young men can manage to finish in the top two of their group then they get to play a final for the shield. Also on Monday October 29th our U-14 footballers complete their year with a blitz in Kildare where they will play Wexford and Carlow. Please keep an eye on these notes for all up to date fixtures in this competition.

Coach Education & Workshops

Last Saturday we held a one-day foundation football course in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park for new coaches which was completed by 13 male and female coaches whereby they received their tuition from Longford tutors John Higgins and TJ Ward. Everyone who attended had a very enjoyable day as they took their first steps to becoming a coach and we wish them all the best in the years ahead as well as looking forward to seeing them continue to attend coaching courses and workshops throughout 2013.

Leinster Road Show

The Leinster GAA Gaelic Games Roadshow is a mobile games based activity unit designed to enhance the promotion of Gaelic games in our Clubs, Schools and Communities. It is unique because of the modified and novel GAA specific equipment that will ensure that each participants experience is fun, enjoyable and leaves a lasting memory. The Roadshow’s main attraction will be the presence of Europe’s largest 45m x 30m inflatable Go Games pitch designed in such a way to help boys and girls play our games in a truly unique and fun environment. In addition to the pitch two inflatable stand alone goals will be on offer with targets to enhance the promotion of the GAA U Can Skill Awards. These goals can also be used for normal games. The Road Show can be booked by clubs on available dates throughout the year by contacting any of our coaching staff listed at the end of these notes.
