Cavan snatched a dramatic, last gasp victory over Longford in the Leinster Junior Football Championship semi-final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park when Martin Reilly rifled home the matchwinning goal in the final minute to give Cavan a one-point victory.
Longford had looked the most likely winners for the majority of the second half after Robbie Smyth grabbed a goal off a rebounded shot from Padraig Gill.
After 40 minutes, Longford led 1-7 to 0-6 and looked to be fully in control. However a 46th minute Martin Dunne goal threw Cavan a lifeline.
Longford steadied the ship after that blow and appeared to be successfully seeing out the game as it entered the closing stages. However, goalscorer Robbie Smyth was sent-off for lashing out after a challenge and then came the killer blow of Cavan’s last minute strike.
