The Longford U-16 ladies produced a terrific performance to trounce Tipperary in the All-Ireland ‘B’ Football Championship Final at the Banagher grounds on Saturday last and the title was all wrapped up at half-time at which stage the rampant midlanders had built up a commanding 5-8 to 1-4 advantage.

Team manager Michael Mulvey had this talented bunch of players in excellent shape for the big occasion and from the moment Michelle Farrell fired home a cracking goal with just a minute gone on the clock it was looking good for Longford who ran riot in the first half and could have been even further in front at the break.

Tipperary keeper Jackie O’Gorman made a couple of great saves to prevent Emma Farrelly and Michelle Farrell finding the back of the net in the early stages of this one-sided contest but further goals eventually materialised with Farrelly capitalising on a mistake to hit the target in the 10th minute.
