In a bitterly cold, wet and windy Glennon Brothers Pearse Park last Saturday, old rivals Killoe and Clonguish finished all square in a tense Division 1 Ladies Football League Final.

Clonguish got off to the dream start with a Siobhan McGowan goal after thirty seconds. Killoe brought it back level with points from Edel Quinn, Sharon Treacy and Beaney Hackett but Clonguish struck again with a well taken shot along the ground which rattled the Killoe net again and this was followed by a point from Cliona McGowan. Killoe finished out the half with points from Anna McDonnell, Edel Quinn and Beaney Hackett leaving the half time score Clonguish 2-1 Killoe 0-6.

With no let up in the weather conditions the second half ebbed and flowed with both defences working hard which meant the next score did not come until the fifteenth minute, a point for Clonguish from Aisling Green. At this stage Clonguish were also reduced to 14 players when Aoife Darcy was sin binned. Killoe got the next two scores, points from Jacinta Brady and Fiona Byrne. With two minutes of normal time left Aoife Darcy now back on the field popped over a point for Clongish. At this stage Killoe’s Fiona Byrne was sin binned. On thirty minutes Jacinta Brady got the equaliser for Killoe. There were a few minutes of injury time but neither team could get that elusive score. Final score Clonguish 2-3 Killoe 0-9. At the time of going to press the replay is set for Saturday, November 9. Venue to be confirmed.
