Colmcille: The first executive meeting of the year took place 17th Jan. Items for discussionincluded fundraising, minor club structures and plans for the year ahead. A vote of sympathy was passed extending condolences to the Higgins family Rathmore, Mulligan family Aughagreagh, Denning family Larkfield, Mulligan family Rathmore, and the McCabe family Aughnacliffe. There was a strong turnout for the first training sessions of the year. Training will continue Tuesday and Friday evening, all players welcome for the new season. Reserve 1 and Senior B teams will be managed by Seamus Mckeon for match days. Gerry McKeon and Barnes Murtagh will continue with the junior teams. Pauric Mulligan will head up the new Minor Club Subcommittee to involve all teams from u6 to Minor. Further details to follow in coming weeks. Club membership is now due for 2013. Membership is €30 for adults and €5 for Minors. Members are automatically entered into a draw for free All Ireland Final tickets. Clonguish GFC will hold a fundraising “White Collar Boxing” event in Newtownforbes on Saturday 26th January at 8.30pm Declan Farrell will be representing Colmcille in the ring. A great nights entertainment is guaranteed for all who would like to support Declan on the night. Admission €10.00 for adults and €5.00 for kids. Congratulations to the Longford U21 team on winning the Hastings Cup, defeating Cavan by 1-9 to 0-10 at Keenan Park Ardagh on Saturday last. Well done to our club representatives Barry McKeon and Conor Hawkins and selector Podgie Murtagh.

Training - We appeal to all players to commit to training fully and not on and off as it suits. The majority of players are making a determined effort to change things around and the club are keen to give them every support. We thank the players for their effort with the lotto to date. Membership - James Farrell registrar is collecting membership so lets give him a helping hand and pay it to him or Treasurer Robbie Forbes. Minor and underage matters - At an important underage meeting on Sat last the following committee was put in place. Chairman David McCormack vice chair Ronan Lennon sec Fergal Kelly PRO. To be appointed Assistant sec Albert Fallon. Finance committee to be appointed. Mark Mulvihill Minor manager and the other team managements will be put in place at our next meeting on sat week Feb 2nd at 6-30 . All parents players and anyone interested please come along to this important meeting which will outline our plans for 2013. Philip Quinn has been appointed Chairman of the u8 to u12 academy and he will bring forward plans ideas and names to next meeting. Minor training has begun and we ask players to co-operate and turn out Anyone with any ideas or suggestions and wish to make contact why not contact the new pro at Best wishes - We wish Best wishes to club members Niall Sheehy and John Reed and the rest of the Longford schools panel all the best in the Leinster Schools final on this Friday night in Cashel at 7-30. This is a good team and win lose or draw they deserve support. They have worked hard. Other players from the local schools are Andrew Farrell Martin McGoey Shane Kenny Fergus Farrell Rory Connor Paddy Farrell Gary Kenny. So the best of luck to them and their managers James Carroll and Ryan Plunkett. The committee would also like to thank local business Hanley Motors for their generous support as always.

Forgney St. Munis: Training for the new season will commence on the first week-end in February all players will be notified by text, and we are very pleased to welcome back Adrian Coughlan as our team manager for this season, we wish Adrian and his selectors the best of luck for the year ahead. A reminder to all players that membership is now due and it is very important that it is paid before training commences as membership also includes player insurance cover, the fee is €20 euro for adults and €10 euro for students and is being collected by the treasurer Eamon Reilly. Congratulations to Longford Under 21’s who won the Hasting’s Cup on Saturday last with a 2 point win over Cavan in Keenan Park Ardagh.

Longford Ladies: On Saturday last we had to cancelled our training trials for our U14 and U16 county teams due to the effect the bad weather conditions are having on the varies pitches. We hope to be in a position to have the training again on Saturday next again subject to availability of pitches and weather conditions. We had our Longford Ladies Annual Church Gate collection on Saturday and Sunday last, please ensure all monies are dropped into Ann Jones or Dolores Kiernan as soon as possible and please advise Victor Connell of amounts collected. Many thanks to all who contributed to our cause. In the coming weeks we hope to have a workshop for our Referees, our Chairs & Secretaries, our Treasurers and our PRO’s. To start with it will be the county members meeting with the clubs to explain their responsibilities and possible ways of improving communication and working together, we will then have Will Harmon’s member from Croke Park down to help us expand on this, if at all possible both will happen on the same nights. Asssistant to these positions are also welcome to attend these workshop. Clubs are invited to take part in the All Ireland Feile. If there is clubs or clubs interested please advise Victor Connell, if there are more than one club interested we will run off a competition for the U14 teams and whoever wins will be in a position to send the winning team to the All Ireland Féile to represent Co. Longford Ladies.

Killoe Ladies: Spot the ball results for 18/01/13 were €25 Paddy McKenna and €100 Eileen Cahill. A great night was had by everyone at the Killoe dinner dance last Saturday night . It was great to see such a big crowd attend . Everything went like clock work with a beautiful meal, very fast speeches and a lively band .Well done to everyone involved . Congrats to all who received awards and medals on the night.

Longford Slashers Minor: The Annual General Meeting of Longford Slashers Minor Club takes place in our Clubhouse this Friday, January 25th commencing at 8 pm. We hope to see a big attendance on the night, and we encourage people to do their best to attend the meeting and encourage others to do likewise, particularly people who may not currently be actively involved but who may have children playing for the Club. Longford Slashers minor club caters for children from nursery to minor level and we are always on the lookout for new blood to help out. If you are willing to get involved come along to the meeting on Friday or else contact a club member known to you.

St Patrick’s Óg: Thanks to all who attended our AGM on Friday night . Officers elected are as follows. Chairman - Henry Vaughan. Vice Chairman - Joe Farrell. Secretary - James McLoughlin Treasurer - Nicholas Farrell ,P.R.O - Michael Beirne. Registrar - Michael Keenan .County board delegates - Martin Halpin , James McLoughlin ,and Michael Hayden. Presentation of medals to U 15 team will take place in the GAA clubhouse on Friday 25 th of January at 8.30 sharp. We hope to see all players and family members. There will be light refreshments on the night. It is hoped in the very near future to have a Beginners coaching course ( foundation course), provided that we get adequate numbers to participate. Co coordinating this will be Liam Keenan. Anyone interested in getting involved in this ,or if you have done it in the past, but would like to re familiarise with coaching. Tang: Maryland-Tang u21 presentation - There will be a medal presentation for the Maryland-Tang u21 championship winning team in Cooney’s hotel, Ballymahon on Friday night 25th. A great night is expected so why not come along and share in the celebration , medal presentation will take place between 9.30 and 10.30 with food served after. No admission and all are welcome.Tang GAA would like to wish Fergus Farrell good luck in the upcoming Leinster schools final. A defibrillator HAS BEEN installed in the grounds of Joe Fox GAA Park Tang. A fantastic piece of important life saving equipment that will be available to the whole community. A simple and straight forward device to use .We dont know when where or if ever we would have to use it. But and this is very important this device is of no use to you or your friends or family if you don’t know how to use it. A free course training all interested in the use of a defibrillator will be held in the coming weeks in the community centre Tang. You only have to be over 16.This is for your own education only you will not be asked to be on a responder list you will not be asked to take care of the defibrillator. I hope you will take part so we can make our community a little bit safer. Shannon Gaels Minor: The club would like to wish our club players Shane Kenny, Owen Sorohan and Jack Rooney and Community College players Shane Cosgrove and Diarmuid Murtagh the very best of luck in the Leinster final against Kildare in Cashel on this Friday evening at 7.30pm. Registration Night: The club will hold its registration night in the clubhouse in Clonbonny on Friday night 8th February from 7pm to 8pm. The club welcomes all young footballers’ and their parents to the club for the 2013. The club caters for young footballers from under 6 years right up to the minor grade. Registration fees for the coming season are €25 for one member and €35 for family membership – two or more children. Congratulations to Shane Donohoe and Liam Connerton for minor club players who along with their Longford county U21 team were victorious last weekend when beating Cavan in the Hasting Cup Final.

Kilglass Gaels: Variety Night: Well done to all who took part & attended our scór variety concert last weekend. Reports are that a great night was had by one and all. The night was well capped off by the welcoming of the news that our figure dancers are to hit the national television screens in February. Well done to one & all and see report in this section of the paper for more details on this. Ladies Training: U12 & U14 Girls training Friday 8-9 and U16 & Minor Girls from 9-10. Tommy’s Back: After just jumping out of the hotseat of guiding the club as chairman the last two years, Tommy Deehan will now join The management of the intermediate football team for 2013. Tommy Like Nigel will bring a vast amount of experience to the game from his years on the field of play including the comeback special in Boyle last year. Good to have you on board Tommy. Sandra Earley Memorial Run: This run will take place on February 24th around the Kilclare/Kiltubrid area in memory of the late Sandra Earley. Sandra was a young mother at the age of 26 years of age, she had three beautiful kids and her whole life in front of her when she died suddenly nearly a year ago. Her boyfriend was of course Barry Lupton who played underage football with the club in the past when he was younger. Proceeds raised from the event will go to the ‘Heart House’ which is a family heart screening clinic at the Mater Foundation, Dublin for families who have lost loved ones to Sudden Adult Death Syndrome. Senior Scór Dates Set: County Final takes place on Good Friday in Elphin – no preliminary rounds. Winners progress to Connacht Final in Ck-on-Shannon on the following weekend. Plenty of time to get ready so can anyone interested in taking part in Figure or Set Dancing, Solo Singing, Recitation, Instrumental Music, Ballad Group, Novelty Act or Quiz please contact Nuala Diffley so that we are all well prepared in time for this year’s competition. Cashel: There was no winner of this weeks Lotto jackpot of 10,000 euro. Nos drawn 4,6,12,15. The 30 euro winner was Declan Gilmore and 20 euro each to Ann Flanagan,Clonmee,Clayton & Cora c/o Anthony Melia and Ingolf Schmitt. Jackpot next week is 10,000 euro. Draw takes place in Fallons and team on duty Sean Casey Martin Skelly Sean Melia. An EGM takes place on Saturday next 26th January at 8.45pm in the clubhouse. This draw is scheduled to take place on St Patrick’s night at a function in ”The Peer Inn”. A “Commemorative Plaque” to honour our participation in “Celebrity Bainisteoir” will be erected in the clubhouse shortly and will be unveiled at this function also. We wish Andrew Farrell and the Longford Vocational Schools team the very best of luck in the Leinster A final on Friday next at 7.30pm in Pairc Ciaran, they play Kildare. Moydow Harpers: This week’s Lotto numbers results were 16, 20, 21, 24. There was no winner of the jackpot. Match 3 winner was John Kelly. Next weeks jackpot is up to €7275. Training is starting Wednesday 23rd of January and Friday 25th of January in the county gym. Membership for the four weeks is €40 (€20 for students) and it covers full use of the gym at all times. All players are asked to make full effort to attend. Congratulations to Fergal Keenan who won the 2012 Noel Quinn Civils Young Player of the Year award and to David Tiernan who won the 2012 Kenny Plant-Hire Player of the Year Award. And Also the club would like to wish the best of luck to Aidan Dowler on his recent appointment as Longford Referee Coordinator.

Dromard: Due to a clash with various other community events we have had to reschedule our senior club AGM. The AGM will now be held in the clubhouse this Sunday evening 27th January 2013 at 6.00pm sharp. There was no jackpot winner this week. The winners of the draw were Margaret Duignan, Grace Duffy, Martha Duffy and Lorraine Kane. The seller’s prize was won Geraldine Bleakley, Moyne Cross Stores. Senior SCOR is due to take place on the first week-end in March and anyone interested in taking part or in helping out with any of the events is asked to contact our Cultural/Irish Officer Peter Masterson at 0833051786. We extend sincere sympathies to the family and relations of Pat Breen Corglass who passed away last week. Pat represented his native Dromard on the playing fields with distinction for many years. This popular clubman maintained a keen interest in the playing activities of both club and county down through the years and right up to time of his death. The subject of the game on the previous Sunday was as always sure to enter every conversation with Pat. May he rest in peace. We extend condolences also to the family and friends of the late Peter Kiernan of Legga who passed on to his eternal reward at the weekend.
