Coaching & Games

Development Squads: On January 2nd our U14 and U15 football panel members from last year received a letter inviting them to take part in our development squads for this year at U15 and U16 Fr. Manning Cup level.
These young men as well as a few additional club players who developed over the previous 12 months took part in a couple trial games after which a panel was drawn up and invited to a functional movement screening day in Longford GAA’s new facility on the Athlone Road (see below for more details). Dave Hare and his team of trainers put both squads through four assessments and each player filled out an injury history form and this will form the bases for the training that these lads will undergo over the next 10 weeks. Our U15’s commenced their program last Tuesday week the 22nd in Pearse Park where they will primarily work with body weight only and our U16’s commenced last Wednesday week the 23rd in the gym as they make the step up from last years work in Pearse Park. Both squads had over 30 players taking part on each night and we would encourage all players to continue to bring their own water for the sessions as well as a healthy, protein rich snack for after training, e.g. chicken sandwich, chocolate milk or just regular milk in that order. U15 training continues on every Tuesday night in Pearse Park from 6:45 with U16 training continuing in the FTI gym on the Athlone Road on Wednesdays from 7-8 pm.

The facility is run primarily on a class basis but clients can also attend outside class times and they will receive one on one coaching from a dedicated trainer so no more worrying if you are doing the right thing or why you cannot achieve your goals as now you have your own personal trainer to do that for you. Leinster Road Show: The Leinster GAA Gaelic Games Roadshow is a mobile games based activity unit designed to enhance the promotion of Gaelic games in our Clubs, Schools and Communities. It is unique because of the modified and novel GAA specific equipment that will ensure that each participant’s experience is fun, enjoyable and leaves a lasting memory. The Roadshow’s main attraction will be the presence of Europe’s largest 45m x 30m inflatable Go Games pitch designed in such a way to help boys and girls play our games in a truly unique and fun environment. In addition to the pitch two inflatable stand-alone goals will be on offer with targets to enhance the promotion of the GAA U Can Skill Awards. These goals can also be used for normal games. Clubs can book the Road Show on available dates throughout the year by contacting any of our coaching staff listed at the end of these notes
