Former Longford great passes away

Former St. Mary’s and Longford GAA great Bobby Burns has passed away. A resident in Naas, Co Kildare at the time of his passing, Bobby will be remembered as one of the all time greats in Longford football, starring in Longford’s famous 1966 National League Final win over Galway.

Former St. Mary’s and Longford GAA great Bobby Burns has passed away. A resident in Naas, Co Kildare at the time of his passing, Bobby will be remembered as one of the all time greats in Longford football, starring in Longford’s famous 1966 National League Final win over Galway.

During an illustrious playing career, Bobby won Junior and Senior Championship medals with his club St. Mary’s, as well as a Dublin league and championship with UCD in 1963. Bobby also played at full forward for Leinster in the Railway Cup.

Former team mates (both club and county) formed a large guard of Honour held at his removal in Blessington on Friday last week (Nov 16).
