Carrickedmond came from six points down with 10 minutes to go to book their place in the Intermediate Championship final with a late winner from substitute Niall O’Farrell.

When James Hanley pointed for Ratchline in the 50th minute to put them ahead by six it looked like the Lanesboro side were in the September 29 decider but Carrickedmond didn’t read that script and a 51st minute Marty Mulvey goal ignited a remarkable comeback. Carrickedmond registered the opening scores; Mulvey (free) and John Gerety pointed by the 4th minute. They were then dealt two massive blows where first Patrick Farrell and then John Lenehan had to go off injured inside 5 minutes. It knocked them a little and in the 17th minute Rathcline were ahead by two points thanks to Mel Shanley and Liam Connerton (penalty).

Hanley put three between them before Mulvey was on the mark for Carrickedmond. Rathcline stretched their lead to five points in the 29th minute when Shane Casserly scored their second goal. An injury-time time Hanley (free) and Mulvey point left five between them again at the break.

Gerety hit over a point on the resumption but Rathcline replied with a Patrick Mullooly free. The next score didn’t come until the 50th minute when Hanley pointed what was to be Ratchline’s last score. In the 51st minute a great run by John O’Shea found Mulvey and he finished to the net. A Conor Kelly free and a great point from Gerety reduced the deficit to just one. In the 57th minute Carrickedmond levelled with a point from O’Shea.

Momentum was with Carrickedmond, and they could have scored their second goal but David Mulvihill saved well to deny Jonathan Keegan. They then hit the front with a point from O’Farrell. Rathcline tried in vain to equalise. Carrickedmond now await the winners of Legan Sarsfields and St Patrick’s Ardagh.
