Damien Sheridan, when asked about his ambitions for the season prior to the Laois game, said he wanted to be playing championship football in August.
There are three more qualifier rounds to be navigated through this month before Longford reach the All-Ireland quarter-final stage which commences in early August. Longford will fancy their chances at home to Limerick who were overturned by Clare in the Munster semi-final.
Should they come through this one, Tyrone, Kerry, Kildare, Galway, Wexford and Leitrim/Wicklow will all possibly await them as the eight winners of Round 2 all go into the pot for Round 3.
Round 3 will produce four winners who will face off against the beaten provincial finalists on the weekend of 28 July. None of the probable provincial final losers should scare Longford should they get that far.
Our poll question this week is, do you think Longford will reach an All-Ireland Quarter-final this year. Cast your vote on the right-hand side of the page.
