St Patrick’s GFC will hold an open day at Keenan Park on Sunday May 6 next where the new stand will be officially opened at 4pm. Over the last few years the club has upgraded Keenan Park to include two new pitches; a modern, state of the art stand; running track and stone wall to enhance its facilities.
Proceedings will kick off at 1pm with the Under 16/18 game between St Patrick’s and Drumlish. This will be followed by a match between St Patrick’s and Edgeworthstown with a presentation to the 1971 Ardagh team planned at half time.
Ardagh and Glen NS girls team will then entertain the crowds from 3pm to 3:15pm and this will be followed by Under 12 Ardagh team v Carrick Sarsfields and the Under 14 local side v Mostrim game.
One of the highlights of the day will include the Longford v Leitrim game at 5pm with the Longford side fresh from its Division 3 victory at Croke Park last week.
A commemorative booklet will also be launched during the stand’s official opening and this includes a short history of the Club as well of lots of photographs and plenty of snippets of information from the area over the years.
The park in Ardagh was officially opened in 1984 and over the years trojan work has been carried out to enhance and improve facilities there.
There will also be plenty of entertainment on May 6 next with music provided by the Castlerea, Co Roscommon Brass Band and tickets will also be on sale for a major fundraising draw where the main prize on offer includes a 1964 John Deere 310 Lanz Vintage Tractor. There is also a runner up prize of a VIP tour for two of the John Deere Factory, Mannheim, Germany (including flights and accommodation). Tickets cost €5 or book of six €20. Draw takes place on Saturday, October 27 2012. Following the official opening, refreshments will be served in the Pete Keenan Clubroom and everyone is welcome to attend.
