Longford Ladies lost again in Division 3 of the National League against Leitrim in Ballinamore on Sunday last. It was a terrible performance by Longford who are still searching for their first win of the season, and one is inclined to ask what has happened to the fantastic Longford Ladies team of 2008, 2009 and 2010? Where do Longford Ladies go from here?
LADIES NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION 3 - Leitrim 1-13, Longford 0-4
None of the former Longford Ladies have emigrated, all are still playing with their clubs but they will not come to represent the county. Equally questions must be asked of the Longford Ladies Executive, what has gone wrong in 2011?
Some of the girls are studying at home, in university, preparing for important examinations and some are working. Longford Ladies Executive and supporters appreciate all the hard work they have done and the honour of winning 3 Leinster titles for the county but why stop? The girls who loyally come out each year are being let down by their former and potentially new team mates. Indeed there are definitely injuries within the panel, some serious but the rest are ‘resting for 2011’.
Surely these girls must realise that it is nearly impossible to re-establish a county team to the same standards in a short time and it could take many years to re-establish a similar team to the successful squad for the past three seasons. Where is the pride in the county colours? This question needs to be answered so lets get the problems sorted out in time for the 2011 All-Ireland Intermediate Championship.
