Mullinalaghta’s dominance in the first half was enough to see them take the Ladies Minor B title as they got the better of Clonguish in the final played at Emmet Park, Killoe on the October Bank Holiday Monday.
This was expected to be a very close encounter as there wasn’t much between any of the teams in this competition. Clonguish got off the mark first with a point from Aisling Greene. Mullinalaghta replied with points from Laura Burke (2) and a goal from Caoimhe Brady. Cliodhna Allen popped over another point for Clonguish for their last score in the first half.
Ellen Kiernan got another goal and a point for Mullinalaghta, Laura Burke added a further two points and Rachel Gilligan finished out the first half with another point to leave Mullinalaghta in a commanding 2-6 to 0-2 lead at the break.
The second half saw Clonguish come more into the game but were relying a lot on Aisling Greene to do the scoring. Mullinalaghta got the first score on the changeover, a goal from Ellen Kiernan followed by a point from Shannon O’Reilly.
Aisling Greene then got a point for Clonguish before Ellen Kiernan struck the net with another goal for Mullinalaghta to put the issue beyond all doubt. But Clonguish showed a lot of character to battle back and closed the wide gap with points from Aisling Greene (2), Sarah Duffy (2) and Cliodhna Allen and a goal from Lynn Gregg.
Caoimhe Brady produced a fine performance at midfield for Mullinalahta, cutting off supply to the Clonguish forward line dispite carrying an injury for most of the second half.
