The goals came at vital times for Granard who dominated the game for large periods with several players impressing in the win.

Despite having early chances Granard found themselves trailing in the early stages with Mark McDonnell and Padraig Conway pointing for Carrickedmond but Granard soon got scores on the board. Points from the Hynes brothers David and Declan levelled the game in the 4th minute before St. Mary’s got their opening goal with a well taken effort from Timmy Jackson.

Mark Tully followed up with a nice point as Granard went four ahead. Francis Kelly brought a save out of Eoghan Mallon in the 14th minute as Carrickedmond tried to get back into the game.

Granard then wasted scoring chances before points from Tully and Declan Hynes (free) put them in front by six in the 25th minute but just before the break substitute Padraig McGrath and John Burns (free) hit over points for Carrickedmond.

Burns got the opening score of the second half just after the throw-in but Granard replied with a good point from Tully. McGrath made it a three point game again in the 33rd minute but three minutes later Granard grabbed their second goal; Jackson with the vision and David Hynes with a very good finish.

Carrickedmond though hit back with two points in a row; Burns (free) and a Conor Kelly point but Granard responded with a third goal in the 48th minute. In a swift move Jackson passed to David Hynes who found corner-back Jody Connolly and he played the ball over to Mark Tully who palmed the ball to the net.

One minute later and Granard stretched their lead to eight points when David Hynes played the ball to wing-back Eoin Higgins and he pointed.
