BALLYMAHON: Registration for all underage players will continue on Friday night next from 7-8pm in the clubhouse. All underage players must fill out a form and pay a registration fee of 10 euro or 20 euro per family. If this is not done you will not be covered in the event of injury, so it is vital that everyone participates. The minor club are running a sweep draw on the Aintree grand national on Saturday April 5th. Tickets are now available at 2 euro each or a book of 3 for 5 euro. Training continues at the usual times with the reserve leagues starting in two weeks, and the U-21 championship on St. Patrick’s Day. It is very important that all players keep coming to training and continue making an effort. Membership is also due before March 31st. It is just 20 euro for the year. There was no lotto winner on Sunday last when the draw was held in Nally’s Corner House with the following numbers drawn 4 ,5, 13, 22. DROMARD: Next weekend sees a number of activities taking place as part of a celebration of the life of Cian Smith. There will be two “Come Dine with Me” nights over the weekend. On Friday March 1st the Breffni Arm Hotel Arva will host the “Come Dine with Me” experience and on Saturday March 2nd it will take place in the Piker’s Lodge Gowna. On Sunday March 3rd the celebrations will continue when a fun game with the players who played on the various teams with Cian at 2pm in Pairc na Gael, Dromard. We encourage as many people to attend the game as possible as it will prove to be a game with a difference with a few amusing twists along the way. Refreshments will be available afterwards in the clubhouse. The All Ireland Senior football Cup, the Sam Maguire, and the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Cup, the Liam McCarthy, will be present on the day. Children and families are welcome to take the opportunity to hold and be photographed with both cups. A number of very sought after items will be auctioned off over the course of the weekend activities, namely signed jerseys of the All-Ireland winning Donegal and Kilkenny winning teams, the H Cup winning Leinster rugby team, a Celtic legends selection. Signed footballs from the Longford senior panel and signed sliotars from the Kilkenny team as well a pair of goalkeeper gloves belonging to our own Damien Sheridan will go under the hammer to mention but a few. Hard luck to Peter Masterson who along with his Athlone IT teammates were defeated by UCC in the Sigerson Cup semi-final on Friday last in Athlone. Reserve league 1 and 3 competitions are commencing on Saturday March 9th when we have home games with Mostrim and Grattans respectively. Best wishes to Longford seniors who make the trip to the Athletic grounds in Armagh to take on the home side in the National league on this Saturday night. The Club are also making a Presentation to Garda Noel Egan following the closure of the Garda Station in Cashel. This is a token of appreciation to Noel for his involvement with the Club in various ways during the years he was stationed in the parish. BORNACOOLA: Division 1: A severely understrength senior team put up a battling performance but were ultimately easily defeated by Dromahair on Sunday last in Dromod in our second league game of the season on a 2-18 to 0-5 scoreline. The senior league takes a break now as Leitrim feature in Allianz league matches for the next couple of weekends. The action doesn’t end for the Senior team however as the Shield competition is due to get underway next weekend. Check fixtures section for details as Annaduff, Carrigallen, Cloone and Gortletteragh will be the teams in Bornacoola’s group. Drama: All roads lead to the Community Centre this weekend for three nights of great drama courtesy of the Bornacoola Players with two plays in the Community Centre on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. The plays are John B Keane’s highly acclaimed The Chastitute and The Spinsters by Eileen Walsh. Back by popular demand are many members of the GAA Club including Padraig Jones as Mickey Molly, Brian Mallon as the Gentle Monk and the love struck Jack and Declan Bohan as the Cross Monk and as the most eligible farmer who will do anything to get his hands on a particular field! The plays start at 8pm nightly and tickets can be booked on 085 8186578. Minor League: The minors played their last game in the league on Saturday morning last when they were defeated by Aughnasheelin on a 4-7 to 3-4 scoreline. The boys have been a little bit unlucky throughout the league, winning one of the three games but coming very close in each of the other two. Lots to work on for the championship and plenty of reasons for optimism too. U-16 Meeting: There will be a meeting of the U-16 panel on Thursday evening next in the dressing rooms at 8pm. All those interested in playing in 2013 are asked to attend. Dinner Dance: Our Annual Dinner Dance will take place in Cox’s Steakhouse in Dromod on Saturday week, March 9th at which presentations will be made to the various players of the year and to our Ladies team who captured the Intermediate Championship in 2012. KILGLASS GAELS: The club had a very busy weekend. The intermediate team started the ball rolling with a good win away to western Gaels, 1-11 to 1-8. Our senior ladies team cruised to a landslide 7-23 to 0-2 win over last year’s intermediate champions Clann Na Gael in Johnstown. Our U-16 boys team received a walkover from Eire Og. Monthly club meeting this Thursday 28th February n clubrooms at 8.30pm. Ladies Training: U-12 and U-14 Girls training Friday 8-9pm and U-16 and Minor Girls from 9-10pm. U-8 and U-10 training indoors commences next Friday 1st March at 7pm in Sportshall. Senior Scór County Final takes place on Good Friday in Elphin – no preliminary rounds. MINOR-GRANARD: Our U-18 team take the field on Sunday in the first round of the minor league in Higginstown at 12 noon. Congrats to Liam Sullivan on being appointed county minor captain and this is a huge achievement for Liam. Well done from the club and keep up the good work. Our U-12’s and U-14’s are back out training with great numbers turning out.

MINOR-ST. PATRICK’S OG, ARDAGH: Training for u-18 and u-16 on Thursday night February 28th commencing at 7.30pm, and on Sunday March 3rd at 12 noon.

MINOR-WOLFE TONES: There are two very important dates in the Wolfe Tones diary in early March. On March 6th Mostrim’s Coaching Officer Gerry Lynn and his team will hold a coaching session in St. Mary’s National School for all children who wish to part take. This will be a valuable preparation for the year ahead for all underage groups. Free gum shields will be available on the day. Over the past couple of years the GAA summer camp has been very successful and has encouraged all the young children to become more involved in our local club. On Saturday March 9th we will hold our annual registration day in Devine Park, (more details next week). Our U-18 team have their first league game this Sunday in Devine Park against Carrick Sarsfields. We extend our deepest sympathy to the McGovern family, Cam on the recent family bereavement.

LADIES-GRATTANS: First of all would like to give big congratulations to Petrina Carrigy, Roisin Leen and Eve Nerney on making the County U-14 girls team, well done girls. We are having a registration day on the 2nd of March, not training. This will also be an introduction day to let players and parents know what’s going on and to answer any questions they need to ask. It is from 10:30-12 noon so any girls that haven’t re-registered from last year please make sure to come along. Also still room for any new girls who want to come join, you will be very welcome. The sponsored walk is on the 7th of April, starting at 12 noon so get all family and friends out.

LADIES-DROMARD: Well done to Mairead Reynolds who played at full-back with Longford ladies in their recent National league games. Keep up the good work Mairead. Well done to Aiden Mimnagh, Emma Bleakley and Laura Bleakley who were involved with the Longford minor ladies team in the Leinster minor championship game against Offaly last weekend. Our seniors started back training on Sunday last. Good to see the good turnout. Best of luck in the season ahead.


LADIES-LONGFORD SLASHERS: Our U-16’s and ladies are training every Friday night from 7.20-8.30pm. Matches will be coming up soon so it is important that the numbers continue high. We have two bag packing days coming up on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th March in Dunnes Stores from 10-6pm each day. This is a most important fundraiser for the club and we hope that both parents and players of the club will help out over the course of the two days. Time slots will be allocated to each age group to make sure all times are covered. Anyone interested in helping out can contact any of the committee members as we need as many helpers as possible.

LADIES-ST. BRIGID’S GAELS, ARDAGH: Our football training sessions will commence on Monday the 4th of March for girls of all age groups from u-8 to u-14. Training session will be from 6 to 7pm at Ardagh football pitch. It is compulsory for all girls to have gum shields for training and matches. Nursery season will commence on Monday 1st April from 6 to 7pm. Girls need to be age 4 to 6 and parents are required to stay with Nursery children. New members welcome. LADIES-MULLINALAGHTA: Our Ladies held a successful presentation night on Saturday last 23rd February in the Pikers Lodge where guests and supporters were serviced with a beautiful meal by Christine and her staff. There was many presentations on the night which included special momentums to long serving officers of the executive: Rosaleen Mahon, Josephine Matthews and Geraldine McGovern. There was also a special presentation made to the two trainers Conor and Damien who put in so much committment in the two years with the girls. Our newly engaged couple Lizzie and Barry and not forgetting our newly weds Ella and Ruairi. But the special guests on the night were the winners of the Intermediate A Championship 2012, who were presented with their medals by All-star nominee Sharon Tracey. The Intermediate cup was presented by Co Chairperson Dolores Kiernan, who also presented Lisa Mooney with her player of the match award. Entertainment was by Lighting strikes which was enjoyed by both young and old into the early hours. We would like to thank all who supported on the night and all who bought and sold tickets. We would also like to thank Sharon Tracy and Dolores Kiernan for attending on the night. All who bought the bonus ball on the night, results will be posted next week. Back to business and training will resume shortly and all players will be notified by text.
