Allianz National Football League Division 3 – Round 5
Longford . . . . . . 0-15 Antrim . . . . . . 1–8
After getting the better of Antrim at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday with four points separating the sides in the finish, Longford’s latest win is another step in the right direction and promotion to Division 2 of the National Football League is now virtually guaranteed because of the head-to-head results situation along with a superior scoring difference.
But to make absolutely certain of moving up to a higher level next season Longford require at least a draw in their next fixture away to pointless Tipperary in Thurles on Saturday evening next (throw-in 7pm) and current form clearly suggests that Glenn Ryan’s side will get the result they need to achieve consecutive promotions and the bonus of another Croke Park appearance in the Division 3 Final on Saturday April 28th.
Paul Barden was particularly impressive in the win over Antrim, scoring five points from play, while Sean McCormack finished on the same total (four frees) with Bernard McElvaney (2), Niall Mulligan, Brian Kavanagh and Shane Mulligan also on target for the league leaders Longford.
