Cnoc Mhuire U-16 footballers qualified for the Leinster ‘A’ Vocational Schools Football Championship semi-final after beating Dunshaughlin CC and Kells CS last week. Having lost to Gallen CS Ferbane in the first game, the pressure was on when Dunshaughlin came to Abbeylara last Wednesday. Indeed it was the away team that started the better and were leading at half-time by a scoreline of 0-8 to 0-3. After the restart, the Granard lads really upped their game and began to dominate, scoring four goals, three from Mark Kiernan and one from Aaron Brady to lead by seven points with three minutes remaining. Dunshaughlin did score 1-2 in the closing stages to leave a nervy last few minutes, but Granard held out for the win. Best performances on the day were from Shane McGarry, Cian Brady, Barry McKiernan and Conor Mallon.

On Friday last, Cnoc Mhuire U-16 footballers produced a wonderful team performance to comprehensively defeat Kells CS in very difficult conditions on Kells school pitch. The game was very tight in the first half with both teams missing good scoring opportunities but a Shane Sheils goal gave Cnoc Mhuire the edge as they led by five points at half-time, 1-7 to 0-5. Given the fact that Granard needed to win by four points to qualify and seven points to top the group, they really kicked on in the second half, with goals from Shane Sheils (2) and Aaron Brady helping to give them a comfortable victory. On the day there were a number of outstanding performances with Luke Meehan, James Mooney, Conor Brady, Shane Sheils and Niall McGahern playing particularly well.
