GAA notes

COLMCILLE: Don’t forget that tickets are still on sale for the “New York for 10 Euro” draw. With just under a month to go to the big draw, tickets are selling fast. They are available from executive members and online at www.facebook.com/newyorkfor10. Executive members will also be calling to homes throughout the parish. All support will be greatly appreciated. The lotto jackpot now stands at 6000 euro. Envelopes are available from all the usual outlets. It is with great sadness that we note the recent passing of Johnny McCabe. A great clubman and supporter of Colmcille G.A.A, Johnny played for the club and achieved some great distinction at underage level including a minor league and championship double in the 1960s amongst other victories. Johnny was part of the team that beat the favourites St. Vincent’s 5-2 to 1-3 to win the minor championship and complete the double. Johnny also represented Longford at minor and U-21 level before leaving for England. He resumed playing upon his return home and became a huge supporter of Colmcille football. A true gentleman to meet it can be said without fear of contradiction that Johnny will be missed throughout the community. May he rest in peace.
