Cnoc Mhuire, Granard suffered a most unfortunate exit from the Leinster Vocational Schools Senior ‘A’ Football Championship when they lost out by a single point against Maynooth Post-Primary in a cracking quarter-final clash at the NUI Maynooth Campus on Tuesday.

Cnoc Mhuire got off to a terrible start to trail by 3-2 to 0-2 midway through the first half but got right back into contention with goals from Michael Cullen (24 mins) and Aidan McElligott (26 mins) and were behind by just two points at the break, 3-5 to 2-6.

While Cnoc Mhuire ended up with 12 players on the pitch after Ryan McGahern (41 mins), David McGivney (58 mins) and Liam Sullivan (stoppage time) were all sent-off during the course of a tough second half, the Granard school showed great character to keep their title hopes alive and just failed to avoid defeat with the minimum of margins separating the sides at the final whistle.
