The King and Queen of the Prom is a decades old tradition in the US but until now, it has failed to reach these shores. However, that is set to change as a new competition has been launched to search for the 2011 King and Queen of the Grad in Longford.
The winning couple will net themselves a €250 cash prize sponsored by Stephens Cooke and Associates, plus a photoshoot with renowned photographer Shelley Corcoran, wash, cut and blowdry from Zara Hair Salon, a makeover including tan and nails for the Queen from Chic Beauty Salon, and a €100 voucher for Aine’s Boutique. A photo of the winning couple from their photoshoot will appear in the Longford Leader. The competition is open to any couple who attend a graduation ball together at any of the schools in Co Longford during the 2011 Grad season.
Like the Prom, the Grad Ball has been a rite of passage for generations of Irish teens when they finish second level education. However a considerable amount of preparation goes into the event so why let the fun end after one evening?! Prolong the festivities by taking part in the 2011 King and Queen of the Grad and you could win a serious cash prize, plus lots of treats.
“The Grad season is already underway and this competition is a way of making an even bigger event out of the Grad,” explained Longford Leader Editor Sheila Reilly. “An entire generation of Longford people are preparing to move on to the next phase of their lives. The Grad marks that transition. This competition is a fun way of extending the Grad season and will see one couple walking away with some nice prizes at the same time.”
Some Grads have already taken place with more taking place in the coming weeks so now is the time to enter in this event. If your photo appears in the Longford Leader during the Grad season, you will be automatically entered in the competition. If your photo does not appear, fear not! You can still enter by emailing a photo of you and your Grad partner in all your finery on Grad Night to email@example.com.
A shortlist of couples will appear in the Longford Leader once the Grad Season is over and the winning couple will be selected by text vote. All shortlisted couples will be contacted prior to publication of the shortlist in the Longford Leader in the coming weeks. A couple can opt out at any stage by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sheila Reilly concluded by paying tribute to all the sponsors who have made this competition possible.
“It is thanks to James Morgan of Stephens Cooke and Associaties, Zara Hair Salon, Aine’s Boutique, Chic Beauty Salon and Shelley Corcoran Photographer that this competition is taking place and even in these straightened times, it is great to see local businesses supporting events like this.”
