April/May: Gerard (Burger) McVeigh celebrated his 40th birthday to much fanfare at Casey’s Bar in Newtownforbers on April 13. A great night’s craic agus ceoil was had by all.

June/July: A summer BBQ was held in Newtownforbes and it provided an opportunity for all members of the community to come together, catch up and have a laugh. Music was supplied and a great evening was had by all.

August/September: A major fundraising drive continues in Newtownforbes to raise finds for native, Mandy Robbinson who was injured following a road traffic accident in England, earlier in the year. The Leader understands that Ms Robbinson is making a steady recovery after her ordeal.

October/November: She may have left a trail of destruction in her wake, but Fair City’s Lucy exited the show a few week’s ago in more than dramatic style. For Newtownforbes native Lorna Quinn (28), who played the character of Lucy, her stint in Carrigstown marks yet another chapter in her exciting career.

Lucy’s storyline - which had been running for the best part of a year - kept viewers enthralled as they waited in anticipation of her next move in her bid to take utter control of Dolores (Martina Stanley).
