Ardscoil Phádraig took part in the Concern FAST on Friday 7th December 2012. This FAST is one of Concern’s largest fundraising events, generating essential funds for the work of Concern in some of the world’s poorest countries. First held in 1969, the FAST now has over 300 schools taking part with students going without food for a twenty-four hour period.

Each year students are getting more creative in their FAST undertakings, with twenty-four hour silences, sporting competitions and other activities contributing over €300,000 to Concern’s essential work. With some of our team also undertaking the massive feat of a twenty-four hour silence, we were very proud of not only reaching, but beating our target of €2,000. On our final count, the money raised was €2,111.50.

This week, as students came back to school to face a weary January, they were excited to welcome a member of Concern to Ardscoil Phadraig to present their cheque.

On Thursday 10th January, Liam Barnard, from Concern, spoke to students about the immense difference the money raised will make in the lives of those suffering from malnutrition in some of the poorest countries in the world.

The generosity of all those who sponsored and supported all who were involved in the FAST was invaluable and they would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to those people.
