Timely advice on offer as Enterprise Week kicks off

This week saw the launch of Longford County Enterprise Board's aptly named 'Enterprise Week' as part of its concerted drive to rekindle local business.

Spead over the course of a busy five day schedule, proceedings got off to a positive start on Monday when Irish Internet chief executive, Joan Mulvihill talked about the growing opportunities available to start ups and existing companies depsite the recession. John Dempsey later highlighted a number of key pointers to budding business leaders of the future courtesy of a 'Start your own Business' talk.

That lunch time seminar inside Kellehers, Main Street, Longford was followed on Tuesday with a creative selling skills workshop at the Longford County Enterprise Centre on the outskirts of Longford town.

There, entrepreneurs and business owners were schooled in the art of taking a more creative approach to translating commercial messages to audiences. Managers were also briefed about how services might be arranged to take advantage of consumers' changed mindset in a recession.

As the week enters its latters stages, Longford County Enterprise Board plan on holding a string of business information clinics, starting today (Wednesday). These include one to one sessions, providing information on services available from Longford County Enterprise Board such as financial assistance, business training and mentoring.

And in a bid to attract as many interested parties as possible, business leaders have opted for a more diverse geographical spread of the county with clinics taking place in Edgeworthstown (10am-11:30 am), Granard (12:30pm-2pm) and Ballymahon (2:30pm to 4:30pm).

Tomorrow (Thursday) will see participants avail of a novel 'Ideas Generation and How to Protect your Idea' forum. Among the countless stream of talking points up for discussion will be the likes of identifying skills and strengths, where to look for a business idea and idea generation as well as developing and protecting your idea.

This will be followed by one to one sessions geared specifically at patent searches, all of which takes place at Longford County Enterprise Headquarters, Ballinalee Road, Longford. For more on Enterprise Week, contact 043 3342757.
