Longford timber processing firm Glennon Brothers is hoping to add yet another award to its ever growing trophy cabinet, this time by capturing a coveted European title.

As revealed by the Leader in July, the 2010 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalists fought off stiff competition to emerge as a national finalist in this year’s European Business Awards.

Having come out on top in that particular contest, the firm now takes its place in the fight to be crowned national champion as the competition moves into its latter stages.

Unlike other high profile business awards, this year judges have decided to introduce a new video online component to the 2012 event as well as an online public voting system.

Speaking at the time Mike Glennon, who heads up the long established firm alongside his brother, said the distinction of achieving national champion status was evidence of the company’s sustained progression.

“We’re delighted to have been selected as a National Finalist. This selection is a testament to our hard working and dedicated team, who have faced enormous challenges over the last few years, and have worked hard to find innovative solutions.

The brothers however know the next stage of the competition promises to be the toughtest with 27 other Irish companies, including Coillte and Aer Lingus all vying for supremacy.

As such the company are appealing to members of the public to get behind their bid for European acclaim ahead of their centenary year in business which begins in January.

Final category award winners are not expected to be unveiled until April 2013.
