Potential building boost for Longford

As many as seven Co Longford building projects could be given the green light if government leaders succeeds in securing a European Union stimulus package.

Earlier this week, the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) published an extensive list of previously announced schemes earmarked for investment should EU funding come on stream.

Nationally, the CIF has identified 52 road projects, 319 water service projects, 11 third level assignments, 10 health based undertakings projects, 6 justice proposals, 3 motorway service areas and 13 miscellaneous projects which could be pushed forward by the package.

Not surprisingly Dublin and Cork command the largest number with 55 schemes each followed by 29 similarly structured projects in Galway.

Speaking about the list, CIF Director General Tom Parlon said: “Since the possibility of an EU stimulus package was first suggested, the CIF has been looking into what projects could be included, including 7 projects based in Longford. By going through Government published data and intelligence provided by our own members, we have been able to compile this list which identifies hundreds of projects all around Ireland that could benefit from the EU stimulus deal.
