Planning for life after work

Co. Longford Citizens Information Service is running its annual Community Retirement Programme entitled “Planning for your future – Life after work” in September/October 2012. This follows a sequence of hugely successful programmes over the last six years and is aimed at anyone who has just recently retired or is intending to retire or from employment

It is also aimed at those who, for whatever reason are not actually going through a formal process but nonetheless wish to make some form of transition in their lives towards retirement e.g. homemakers, farmers, self-employed, unemployed or social welfare recipients.

“Having researched the need for this programme we have found that for many people there is no practical assistance to support them in making plans or decision for retirement. Before long these people find that they are carried along in a torrent of repetitive, endless tasks which was never their aspiration for these prized and personal years,” said Connie Gerety, Manager Co. Longford Citizens Information Service.

This Programme will provide practical information on a range of topics and services essential to retirement e.g. Social Welfare, Health, Housing and Tax. It will also address matters to consider including, life coaching and lifestyle changes; the process of making a will; leisure time options; further paid or voluntary work and travel.

The Programme has been designed to be sociable, informal and conversational and will provide an opportunity for participants to submit questions confidentially in advance of each presentation. The programme runs for seven consecutive Wednesday’s from 8:00 - 10:00 p.m. commencing on Wednesday 12th September in Co. Longford VEC Headquarters, Battery Road, Longford.

This course is entirely free of charge, but places are limited to 30 participants. To register contact: Co. Longford Citizens Information Service at 0761 07 5890. Closing date for registration is this Friday 7th September.
