New signs for north Longford

New blue named signs will erected in the villages of Aughnacliff, Moyne, Ennybegs, Legga and Ballinamuck in the coming weeks, according to local councillor, John Duffy.
At a recent north Longford area meeting Cllr Duffy said he had asked for the signs over a year ago and was told by council engineer Eamonn Bennett that there had indeed been a delay in procuring the signs but that the Roads department had now secured them and would have them erected in the coming weeks.
Cllr Duffy also raised the planned pedestrian crossing and traffic management for Aughnacliffe village, and was told that progress was slow at the moment, as it was with the design team to put a plan together to send to the National Roads Authority who would have to approve and grant funding for it.
Cllr Duffy expressed his disappointment at the slow progress, saying he had handed a petition to the roads department last year. He said it now looked like it would be next year before anything would be done to slow traffic and allow safer crossing for the many pedestrians from the school to the church in Aughnacliffe. Replying to Cllr Duffy, Director of Services Jack Kilgannon gave assurances the the council was doing everything possible to meet with the wishes of the the community but that protocol must be followed as the NRA have the ultimate say on all safety matters. Cllr Duffy said he has since met with the Design team in Longford and is assured that they are moving as quickly as they can.
