Monaghan firm recommence burger production

LOUGH EGISH meat processing plant Rangeland Foods recommenced production last week after getting the all clear from the Department of Agriculture. The plant has stopped production after equine DNA was found in some of its products.

A spokesperson for Rangeland said this week that the company had undertaken its own tests on a voluntary basis and that they have been completely upfront about a consignment of Polish beef which tested positive for equine DNA.

In a statement, Rangleand say: “On Thursday January 31st, Rangeland Foods alerted the Department of Agriculture to the fact that tests into a consignment of Polish beef, which Rangeland had conducted at their own behest, had tested positive for equine DNA.

“The Department of Agriculture sampled the same consignment and concurred with Rangeland Foods’ test findings. Rangeland Foods had already voluntarily halted production at this stage. The Department of Agriculture has confirmed that they could see no reason why Rangeland Foods would not be in production.”
