Longford Show prepared for all kinds of weather

Hail, rain or snow, the 110th County Longford Show and Country Fair 2012 will go ahead this year with a plan B approach in place by the organising committee, should the adverse weather continue.
That was the loud and clear message by chairman, Charlie Murphy at the well attended launch which took place at Longford County Library last week.
Michael Hughes, Secretary, National Show Association – who spoke at the launch – said that while the weather was “a bit of a concern”, the assurances given to him by the Longford Show Committee that the event would go ahead regardless, was “ a very positive step”. “Shows have been cancelled all over the country due to the weather, so I am very hopeful now that the County Longford Show and Country Fair will go ahead as planned,” he added. “These shows are a great family day out and they bring people from rural and urban Ireland together. We have appealed to the Department to offset the cost of insurance, which is one of the main concerns that show organisers have with each passing year. Sponsorship is vital, especially in these economic times and I believe that Adrian Greene at Longford Community Resources Ltd (LCRL) has been instrumental in that area; so thank you very much to all those who have supported the Longford Show in the past and those who continue to do so into the future.”
County Mayor, Séan Farrell was also on hand to wish the Committee all the very best in their endeavours. “The County Longford Show and Country Fair is very much part of parcel of rural life in this county,” he added. “It is always a great day out for all the family and it has been going strong for over 100 years. I hope the weather improves and I have no doubt that this will be a great event again this year.”
Local IFA chief, Andrew McHugh then thanked the committee for ensuring the event year on year. “Every year we are provided with the very best in what these shows offer; the very best in rural life and the Longford Show Committee have done us proud,” he said. “It’s a place for all the family; a place where rural and urban life meets and it is a place where farmers can meet with other farmers to chat and learn further. This is a great event and one which deserves all the support it gets.”
