The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney, TD, announced the commencement of payments to almost 26,000 suckler cow farmers under the 2013 Beef Data Programme last week.

Longford farmers are set to receive their payments as payments to participating farmers begin issuing this week.

“I am pleased that these payments will begin issuing to suckler farmers participating in this programme this week”, the Minister said.

Meanwhile Longford/Westmeath Fine Gael TD, James Bannon welcomed the payments to almost 26,000 suckler cow farmers.

“Some 700 farmers in Longford and over 650 farmers in Westmeath will be paid from the beginning of next week,” he said.

“In total €10 million has been provided from Single Farm Payment Scheme (SPS) unused funds for the Beef Data Programme (BDP). Money will be allocated to animals born during 2013 and 2014. 100,000 farm families are involved in suckler farming and almost 8,000 people are employed in processing, sales and marketing”.
