Further €200,000 allocated for remedial works at Gleann Riada

A further €200,000 has been allocated for remedial works at Gleann Riada estate in Longford town. The extra funding is in addition to the €90,000 already provided in August this year.
The funding announcement was made today (Wednesday November 21) by Minister for Housing and Planning, Jan O’Sullivan and it comes from the Public Safety Initiative funding for unfinished estates.
Longford-Westmeath TD, Willie Penrose, a former housing minister, today welcomed the decision of his party colleague.
“I have been in regular contact Minister O’Sullivan in relation to this matter and also with officials in Longford County Council, who are working diligently to resolve ongoing, significant issues,” said Mr Penrose.
“Funding under the Public Safety Initiative is designed to address safety issues in public areas of unfinished housing developments and I am glad to say that the Minister has approved an allocation of up to €200,000 to Longford County Council under this funding stream.
“I know Minister O’Sullivan is determined to play a constructive role in resolving significant issues in Gleann Riada. In common other similar developments throughout the country, there is also an obligation on lenders, developers, receivers and property owners to come together so that comprehensive plans and funding to resolve ongoing issues is agreed and in place.”
