Gavin Mitchell of Mitchell Meats, Drumlish, was celebrating recently, after being named winner of the Northern Region in the National Sausage and Pudding Competition hosted by the Associated Craft Butchers of Ireland.
A native of Gortletteragh, Co Leitrim, Gavin entered the competition for the first time last year, when he was crowned runner up in the same category.
Delighted to have made it to the final, which will take place next month in the Citywest Hotel, Dublin, Gavin worked on last year’s recipe to produce the winning product. Stating that the sausages have proven to be a hit with customers, Gavin added that they are particularly popular in breakfast rolls, which are made at the shop’s Deli counter, which was added after renovations earlier this year.
Revealing that he had topped the competition by four points, Gavin said, “Everything is fresh, it’s Irish, that’s what they’re looking for in this game.”
Gavin also reveals that the pork is sourced from Green Pasture Meats, located just up the road from his own shop, while beef is supplied from Gavin’s farm, ensuring total traceability.
