Longford County Council has invited tenders from a number of leading specialists in the development of a smart phone application. The smart phone application will provide residents and visitors with rea-time information on the tourism offering of County Longford including heritage sites, leisure facilities, towns and villages, festivals and events. It is hoped that successful tenderer will be appointed in the coming weeks, and that the application will be available for free download from the itunes store and the android play store in the last quarter of 2012.

Longford County Council has established a Steering Group to oversee the development of the application, comprising of representatives of the Midland Regional Authority, Longford Tourism, Longford Town Council, and Longford Community Resources Limited (LCRL).

Since the DLA project commenced in 2010, a number of national and international ICT best practices have been identified demonstrating new ways of working and connecting with the citizen in the public sector. On the basis of best practices identified Longford County Council are developing a smart phone application for County Longford. For further Information please contact: Daniel Lynch.
