Changes proposed to Longford rail services

Iarnród Éireann has proposed a number of minor changes to Longford rail services, including the cancellation of one evening service to Dublin.

It is proposed that the 5.35pm Bray to Longford service, which departs Connolly Station at 6.18pm, will now terminate in Maynooth. According to Iarnród Éireann, numbers travelling west of Maynooth on this service are very small. A service 13 minutes earlier, the 6.05pm Connolly to Sligo, which serves Longford, will have increased capacity.

The 9.05pm Longford to Connolly service is also set to be cancelled.

A spokesperson for Iarnród Éireann said these changes are being proposed to maintain the vast majority of services while reducing operating costs.

Iarnród Éireann have also proposed the 07:05am and 09:05am Connolly to Sligo services would be amalgamated to provide a service at 08:05am, and the 5pm and 7pm Sligo to Dublin services would be amalgamated to provide a service at 6pm.

In total, Longford/Dublin frequency would be reduced from 11 trains each way daily to nine trains each way daily, and Longford/Sligo frequency would be reduced from eight trains each way daily to seven trains each way daily.

Draft schedule revisions for 2013 for Connolly routes have now been posted online at www.irishrail.ie for customers to review and comment upon. This process enables customers to express their opinions on changes proposed, or any other schedule issues they wish to see addressed. These are then examined before the final timetable is adopted.

“We would encourage all customers on these routes to take a few minutes to look at their route and the proposed changes, and to let us know what they think – whether they are completely happy with the schedule we are proposing, or whether it creates difficulties for them,” a spokesperson for Irish Rail added.

Iarnród Éireann has also advised all customers on all routes to view the draft schedules, as many services will see departure time changes, or changes to stopping patterns of individual changes which may affect their journeys.
