A host of paintings and artefacts from Carrigglass Manor, located close to Longford town went under the hammer during Tuesday’s Adam’s Country House Collections auction which took place on Tuesday last at Slane Castle.

The painting fetched €320 despite having a reserve price of between €400 and €800. A similar portrait of Anthony Lefroy, once MP for County Longford, sold for €4,000 after demanding a reserve price of between €3,000 and €5,000.

The highest seller as far as Carrigglass was concerned was a 19th century amboyna and gesso parcel gilt triform centre table which fetched €11,000 despite estimate prices only reaching between €3,000 and €5,000. A painting entitled ‘A Stormy Seascape’ commanded €9,500, €1,500 over its maximum estimate of €8,000.
