Leading oil and gas flow provider Cameron is planning to link up with the former B3 Wessel Cable building , sparking hopes of a major jobs boost for the area.

In a planning application to be submitted to Longford County Council, the Longford town based manufacturer has set its sights on linking its present Aughafad headquarters to the neighbouring premises which Cameron acquired last October.

Under the plans, provision has been made for a high level glazed walkway between the buildings.

Similarly, architects have drawn up designs to alter part of B3’s former warehouse to become a new three storey office area alongside a new internal link corridor.

New windows, doors and glazed curtain wall entrance and new parapet to line the proposed development’s entire front elavation are likewise included.

Details of the plans are likely to fuel speculation that the US multinational could be primed to expand its workforce in the county.

Attempts by the Leader yesterday (Tuesday) to obtain an official response from the company was unsuccessful.

It was a similar case with local politicians and economic representatives with no one willing to comment publicly on the matter.

Longford Westmeath Fine Gael TD James Bannon summed up the cagey atmosphere, stating it would be imprudent to speak out at this stage.

“It wouldn’t be proper of me to say anything,” he said..

“There will be a few positive announcements for the region in time, but I don’t want to comment at the moment.”
