There will be more than just the customary festive feel around Longford town this weekend as local businesses gear up for a two day Failte Festival.

The event is the brainchild of local group, The Longford Unite Project and businessman James Morgan with a host of activities planned.

And according to Sinead Larkin of Longford Unite Project, there is plenty in store for all ages. “A number of businesses in the town have joined the initiative and are very keen to give a little back to their customers,” she said.

“Among the first to sign up were Luigi’s and Supermacs. Pizza Hut have teamed up with Le Monde for their special offer. Zara Exclusive Hair Design have a fabulous special offer running all the way to January. Foleys have turned the pub into a winter wonderland and will have a live band and DJ Huzz playing.”

Among others to have signed up to the action packed weekend is The Black Olive Restaurant who are running a 100 euro voucher competition on Facebook.

Slimming World, Longford will be running a draw for new applicants with the first prize affording the winning entrant a six week free admission.

Coys, meanwhile, are staging a draw for their customers while other businesses taking part in the festival include Torc Café Food Hall, Gala and Bru’s Fancy Dress.

Besides the promotions, some businesses are pledging their support by providing vital funds to local charities. Cherche Le Femme has chosen the Hungry Horse Outside as its charity of the year with €1 from every purchase made going to the Hungry Horse.

Local phone store, Telecho, are holding an old mobile collection station in order to help a young autistic sufferer in his desire to obtain a refurbished Ipad.

“Businesses are signing up all the time,” said Ms Larkin. “There is also a craft market on the Market square, organised by the Local Enterprise Office where Santa and his elves are also expected to make an appearance.”

“There is also a couples competition, where one lucky couple will win a date on the town, ‘on the town’! Hair and make-up will be provided by Zara Exclusive Hair Design and Danka and Declan the Barber for the men.”

To enter, just send a picture into the Longford Unite Facebook page or the Failte Festival Facebook page, outlining why you love Longford. Draw will take place live on Shannonside FM on December 23.
