Longford County Show and Country Fair takes place on Sunday, July 5 on the land of Seamus and Bernadette Farrell and family, Cloonkeen, Moydow.

This will be the first year to have a Sunday show, a decision made by the committee in an effort to keep the show alive.

It is anticipated that by moving to a Sunday, the show will attract more exhibitors and bring families out in their hundreds to the countryside.

Longford County Show and Country Fair is in its 114th year and Craft Secretary Cynthia Geelan pointed out, “Without the support from our sponsors, exhibitors and general public, this show would not be able to survive.”

Cattle, horse, sheep and goats will all be out on the day in the show rings trying to get the red, blue or yellow rosette and even pick up the title of ‘Champion of Show’. Horse and pony jumping also takes place, which is a big attraction for the public.

Ms Geelan remarked, “Our very popular Dog show, poultry tent, craft tent, ICA tea cafe, bouncy castles, face painting, puppet show and pets corner are just a few items that will be there on the day for all the family to enjoy. Pets corner is a great attraction; here kids and adults can learn about the animals and get to pet them, something you would not get to do in the town!

“Flower Arranging and Cookery Demonstrations will takes place in an indoor marquee and we will have several shows throughout the day.”

Sharon Turley will be live on stage from 2-5pm beside the licensed bar along with the Celtic Blonde Dancers.

On the day there will also be Best Dressed Lady, Gent, Teenager Girl and Teenager Boy, and the winner of each section will win a very generous prize from top clothing/beauty businesses in Longford Town.

Entries close on Wednesday, June 24 and no late entries will be accepted under any circumstances.
