Last weekend members of the Killashee/Clondra Gun Club were shocked to discover that eight of the club’s pheasants were attacked and killed by another animal on Saturday morning last.

The matter came to light early last Saturday morning, when club member Robert Neary entered the compound to feed the pheasants and subsequently found eight of them lying dead on the ground. It then emerged that they had been attacked by a pine marten. The Gun club had been rearing the pheasants over the past few months and had recently released a number of them into the wild.

The remaining pheasants that were attacked were due for release last Sunday, the day after they met their unfortunate end.
