The board of An Post has a new look to it following a government decision to appoint a well known Co Westmeath postmistress to its upper ranks.
Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte took the decision to appoint Rathowen Post Office’s Lorraine Tormey to the role of Postmaster Director in a series of State governed changes unveiled last week.
Last month, the organisation was dealt a blow after being informed it would not be granted its request for a 10c hike in the cost of the standard 55c postage stamp.
In 2011, the state-owned firm lost €50m on its universal postal service, a figure which last year was expected to increase to €65m.
Ms Tormey follows in the footsteps of another local postmaster, Loch Gowna businessman Alan Sloane who first joined the board of An Post in 2010.
