The north Longford parish of Dromard is famous for many things; its striking landscape, rich sporting tradition and firmly entrenched community spirit are just for starters. Now, the locality can add the term ‘inventor extraordinaire’ to that list, thanks to Moyne designer Liam McNamee’s newly introduced ‘Eco-Drainer’.

Put simply, the high powered machine provides a quick fix solution in tackling surface water problems on land that regularly suffers from high doses of rainfall.

“I was draining my own land and things just didn’t seem to be working,” said Liam, in reference to a machine that’s taken the best part of two years to manufacture.

With a patent applied for and two public demonstrations already under his belt, the local authority caretaker has been inundated with calls from prospective clients.

“The reaction has been great, unbelievable in fact,” said Liam. “There’s been people ringing from Northern Ireland, the UK, all over.”

Not bad for a self-professed ‘part-time’ inventor.
