The well-known St Christopher’s pop-up Christmas shop has made a welcome return to Longford town as the festive season gets well and truly under way.

This year the pop-up shop is located in a new venue, right in the centre of Longford town - the former Grasshopper premises just across the car park from the Longford Centre.

The St Christopher’s Christmas Craft Shop carries a wide selection of crafts, cards, and gifts, which have all been created by the talented service users at the centre, who have been busy working on their crafts since the start of the year. Over 100 service users in total have contributed to the wares which will be on sale.

One of the teams from the Ballymahon area has gone to great lengths to produce more than 1,200 Christmas cards, which are sure to be in great demand over the coming weeks. The shop also features items such as jewellery, crafts, Christmas goods, gifts, children’s goods, and lots more.

One section of the shop will feature a theme based around the popular Disney film, ‘Frozen’, while images of Longford from yesteryear printed on slate will also be available to buy.

“We have been making pieces since the beginning of the year and putting them away, “ Jean Healy of St Christopher’s Services told the Longford Leader. “It’s very exciting to see it all coming out of storage.”

The shop will be manned by the service users themselves, and will be assisted by staff members and volunteers.

“The service users have ownership of it,” Jean explained. “It’s their shop; they have been working all year towards this.”

All profits made from sales will go directly to St Christopher’s, and Jean was eager to point out that prices will be keen.

“I would say 80 per cent of the products cost under €5,” she added.

The St Christopher’s Christmas Craft Shop opened its doors at a very special launch event, which took place last Monday, which saw the St Christopher’s choir being joined by none other than Santa Claus himself, who stopped by to officially open the store and celebrate the start of the festive season with service users, staff, and customers.

The shop is open from Mondays to Thursdays between 10am and 4pm, Fridays from 10am to 7pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 6pm, right up until Saturday, December 20.
