The past seven days have provided much cause for optimism for Ireland’s IT sector.

The past seven days have provided much cause for optimism for Ireland’s IT sector.

On one day alone, no fewer than 10 companies announced the addition of 350 new jobs with half of those firms also choosing to locate their international headquaters here.

That same sense of enthusiasm is something local businesswoman Cathy Lynch is hoping to tap into as she embarks on her own hi-tech venture, Alert Learning.

Only officially launched last month, the Ardagh entrepreneur has already held her first course in HTML and Python programming to youngsters.

Judging by the response so far, Cathy couldn’t be more thrilled by the feedback she has received.

“Both sessions were oversubscribed with considerable waiting lists, which shows that there is a certainly a huge demand in Longford for this kind of IT-specific training,” she said.

And with over 6,000 vacancies still to be filled in the domestic IT industry alone, it’s a demand Cathy clearly intends realising.
