Granard farmer David Monaghan has been making his mark on the southern Australian agricultural sector in recent times.
The young man and his brother Denis runs a sheep farm - aptly entitled, Granard Park - in the Stawell District of Victoria. The land was passed onto the brothers by their father Brian, and an Australian publication recently reported that the Monaghan family farm was one industry that appeared to be head and shoulders above many of its counterparts.
“If everyone looks after their own place and looks after their bit, it all combines to make a big difference to the area as a whole,” Mr Monaghan said, adding that with about five kilometres of creek frontage on the Concongella Creek plus several tributaries, he knows the fencing, revegetation and rabbit control work his family has completed, is now keeping the region’s river system healthy. “The work we’ve done fixes the problems we were having with a lot of water coming down from the hills causing salt problems in our part of the creek and downstream.”
