What’s happening at Longford Town Centre?

There has been considerable discussion around Longford town in the last week about an increase in activity at the vacant Longford Town Centre. The shopping centre was built by Bernard McNamara in 2009 and has remained unoccupied in the town since its completion. The facility is part of the NAMA portfolio now and the FGS is looking for a buyer.

In recent weeks, there has been notable activity around the centre and this led to much speculation that a buyer may have finally been found for the centre. However sources say that workers are carrying our maintenance work in a bid to keep the building in mint condition.

According to Cllr Peggy Nolan, builders moved into the unsold precinct in recent days in a move which the Fine Gael representative has broadly welcomed.

“It’s (building) finished to a five star spec,” she said, welcoming the fact that the building would be maintained, as this would make it more attractive to potential purchasers.
