They say the best way to tackle any scourge is to face it head on.

At least that’s what the 40 odd members aligned to Ballymahon Traders Association are telling themselves as they, like many locally based business group’s face up to seemingly unendless recessional troubles.

Over the coming weeks the forward-thinking organisation will hold a showcase evening, dedicated to raising awareness about the south Longford town’s blossoming commercial potential.

It’s also being billed as an ideal opportunity for local firms to see, at first hand, what other businesses are doing to safeguard their own futures.

“With people being so busy, it’s important to know what’s on your own doorstep,” said PRO Jackie White.

As such Ms White is hoping the occasion will provide the springboard for further enterprise and integration among local businesses.

“We are looking for lots of people to come along,” she said. “Even if they think what they are doing is only a hobby, we want to hear from them.”
