The Gathering Ireland 2013 is a Failte Ireland led initiative encouraging local communities to reach out to those who have moved away, their relatives, friends and descendants, and invite them home. To this end, every community is asked to support Co Longford by uploading any events planned for 2013, such as festivals, parades, sporting events, music events/sessions, fundraisers, school reunions, etc to http://www.thegatheringireland.com.

After an event is registered on The Gathering website, the link or invitation can be used to promote the event and extend an invite to friends and relatives worldwide. One event that has been created to support The Gathering initiative in Co Longford is the “Love Longford” Music Festival which will take place between 21st and 30th June 2013 in Longford Town. Everyone is encouraged to take a look at The Gathering website and see what is being planned for 2013 and discover which events may interest your friends and family. Web training

Failte Ireland will be delivering an introductory Web Training Programme on the 6th November in The Longford Arms Hotel from 9.30am to 4.30pm. This is a very practical workshop, delivered especially for the Tourism Trade in Co Longford, which will help tourist business’s understand the basics of how to market themselves on the Internet. The workshop will help evaluate each businesses website , give ideas for website creation and assist the attendees with a variety of ways in which they can promote their business online.

The workshop will cover general e-business topics such as

• How your website looks and sells your business online

• How visitors can find your website;

• How you can improve how visitors navigate around your website

• How social media can help you reach a wider audience of potential buyers etc.

• How to use e-mail to promote your business

• How advertising could be used to generate sales

There will be a strong focus on case studies taken from across the tourism industry, and practical tips and techniques to help you enhance your website. Recommendations and practical guidance throughout the day will help each delegate to complete their own individual web development action plan.
