Timber processing firm, Glennon Brothers, have this afternoon announced that it has reached agreement to become the new sponsor of Longford GAA. The three year sponsorship agreement will be in place for the beginning of the 2012 season and will run through to the end of the 2014 season.

The full sponsorship of Longford GAA covers both football and hurling teams and includes all grades from minor to senior inter-county over the next three years.

Longford GAA secured the sponsorship following the conclusion of its long standing sponsorship deal with the Longford Arms Hotel. The sponsorship arrangement with the Longford Arms was believed to be one of the longest running sponsorship deals in the country. Speaking to www.longfordleader.ie, Pat Glennon, joint managing director, Glennon Brothers group, said: “We are delighted to get the opportunity to sponsor Longford GAA. While Glennon Brothers has expanded in recent years to sites in Fermoy, Arklow, and Troon and Humbie in Scotland, our roots are very firmly in Longford, where the business started in 1913. This sponsorship is a key part of our celebration of 100 years in business in Longford in 2013.”Billy Glennon, director, Glennon Brothers, said; “The Glennon family has had a long association with Longford GAA, and in particular Shroid Slashers. My father Paddy, and my uncle Mick, were actively involved in the development of the club. I can also remember the Longford team being carried around on the back of a Glennon Brothers lorry after their historic National League win in 1966. We look forward to celebrating future victories with Longford GAA”.

Mike Glennon, joint managing director, Glennon Brothers group, said: “Glennon Brothers dates back to 1913 and has a legacy of great contributions from great people, some of whom are not with us today. Without the contribution of these people Glennon Brothers would not have survived the many challenges it has faced over the last 98 years. This sponsorship presents us with a unique opportunity to mark the enormous contribution made by the many people from County Longford in making Glennon Brothers what it is today”.
