For once, it is a good news story for Longford farming following the collapse of TLT International Ltd in Co Westmeath last week.

The Leader has learned that none of the local marts are owed any money by the company and that in fact most had never even dealt with TLT International.

Neither Ballymahon nor Granard Marts had any business dealings with the company, while over in Mohill, the mart there had not conducted any business with TLT for over 12 months. “I am delighted to report that we never did business with TLT,” Ballymahon Mart Manager, Lilly Trot told the Leader. “It is very sad what has happened - there will be farmers very badly affected by this, but for us, thankfully there is a nil effect here in Ballymahon mart.”

Over at Mohill Mart there was similar relief. “To be honest I don’t believe that the collapse of that company will have much of an impact in this area,” said manager, Mohill Mart, Stephen Hanon. “At one point we did business with them, but we have not been associated with TLT for over 12 months now.”
