Brewing and distilling course to provide new opportunities

A new course designed to help local jobseekers set up their own business will take place from November 12-15 next. The course - An Introduction to Brewing and Distilling Skills – will provide participants with a four day programme that covers the process of setting up a micro brewery, technical skills, good manufacturing practice, health & safety, HACCP, legal requirements, sourcing finance and setting up a business. Training will be carried out by Tim O’Rourke of the Brilliant Beer Company, a Master Brewer with over 35 years brewing experience.

The programme will run at the Longford Employment Centre and Mary Smith, Centre Coordinator said the management at the facility were “delighted” with the collaboration between Longford Employment Centre and Taste 4 Success Skillnet on the project. “We have many job seekers in the region looking for the right opportunity and the right training to help them to either source employment or set up their own business,” Ms Smith added. “It is critical that training meets the needs of participants so that they can feel competent and confident in striking out on their own. In today’s economy, the challenges of up-skilling, seeking a career change or setting up a new business can be daunting and stressful. We cannot express how happy we are that the Introduction to Brewing & Distilling Skills Programme will be run in the midlands region. The funding and support from the Taste 4 Success Skillnet to help people develop skills and understanding in this area is greatly appreciated, and we hope that our local job seekers will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.” For further information, please contact: Bridie Corrigan Matthews,
