The airfield at Abbeyshrule in Co Longford is preparing to host a special ‘Fly-in’ Gathering on August 24 and 25.

The airfield at Abbeyshrule in Co Longford is preparing to host a special ‘Fly-in’ Gathering on August 24 and 25.

Numerous events will take place over the weekend to celebrate the village’s aviation links.

Saturday will feature a coarse fishing competition, village tour and Fly-In Awards.

The highlight on Sunday will be the Aviation Sports Day featuring displays by European Aerobatic Champion pilot David Bruton, an Irish Coast Guard helicopter, and a jump by the Tandem Sky Diving Team. Other attractions include a demonstration by a Customs sniffer dog, model aircraft, hot air balloons, and a static exhibition of aircraft..

Entrance is €10 per adult, while children and parking are free. The following night, Monday, August 25, the Rustic Inn in Abbeyshrule will host Brendan Grace. Tickets €25.
